Hana is probably your only option and I have heard hotels are pricey there. The Seven Sacred Pools are beautiful but about 2.5 hours from a larger town.
Is it possible to drive from my hotel in Wailea to the Haleakala crater and the 7 scared pools in 1 day?

That would be a long hard day with all that driving but you could definately do it. The pass for the park is good for 3 days so I would recommend splitting it into 2 days.
