YES, much of the castle is flat and the outer bailey is massive - there were dogs there when I visited (not sure if they were supposed to be running free but they were). Of course you cannot access parts of the walls and towers with either.

When will the scaffolding be removed from the castle so I can photograph it in all its glory?

It's almost gone. Very sorry but the conservation work is important for the castle and will help to preserve it for many years to come.

Just like to mention that as a local in the Pevensey Castle area someone mentioned there are no toilets ? There are in the car park to the right of the Royal Oak Pub. There's also the Cottage Tea rooms and Priory Ourt Hotel all within a good twenty yards of the castle walls.

There is also the Royal Oak & Castle Inn right between the Tea Rooms and Priory Court Hotel. Gladys missed that one...
