Subaru is debuting two specialized flavors of its popular Forester crossover at the 2025 Chicago Auto Show, which runs February 8–17. Between the two, the automaker is pushing the sixth-generation Forester’s envelope of appeal into one familiar segment and one that it’s been conspicuously absent from for some time.

Subaru presented the new 2025 Forester e-Boxer Hybrid variant in Chicago, as well as the 2026 Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid coming to market a bit later.

Subaru introduced two new Forester models at the 2025 Chicago Auto Show: a 2025 Hybrid and a 2026 Wilderness. The Hybrid improves fuel economy by up to 40% while the Wilderness offers off-road-capable features and new trim items.

The 2026 Forester Wilderness For the new Wilderness trim of the new Forester, Subaru promises more standard stuff than in the last Forester Wilderness; also now included is a more advanced dual-function X-Mode, with towing capacity increased to 3,500 lb.

Forester has officially gained two new trim packages. The rugged Wilderness trim package is back, seen previously on the last-gen Forester and on other Subaru models such as the Outback and Crosstrek.
