SDSU head coach Eric Henderson is set to be named the new men’s basketball coach at Drake University. The announcement was made Friday afternoon. Henderson was promoted from associate head coach to head coach in March of 2019.

The 46-year-old Henderson replaces Ben McCollum, who left for Iowa on Monday after leading the Bulldogs to the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament championships and a first-round win over Missouri in the NCAA Tournament.

"My family and I are elated to join Drake Nation," Henderson, formerly the head coach of the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, said.

Ben McCollum is one of the most decorated coaches in Division II basketball history. He took over as the head coach of the Drake Bulldogs on April 1, 2024, after 15 years at Northwest Missouri State.

Jensen, a former Utes player under Rick Majerus, was Utah's top target and replaces Craig Smith, who was fired on February 24 in his fourth season. Jensen has been an NBA assistant coach for 12 seasons. He spent 10 years with the Utah Jazz before joining Dallas in 2023.

Drake University announced on Friday that it has hired South Dakota State’s Eric Henderson as its next men’s basketball head coach. Henderson played college basketball under Greg McDermott at Wayne State College in Nebraska and later joined McDermott at Iowa State as a graduate manager.
