A child who was hospitalized with measles in Texas has died, state health officials said this week. It marks the first death in the state's latest outbreak — the largest such outbreak in close to 30 years — which has left more than 140 people infected.

An outbreak of measles in northwest Texas grew to 146 cases on Friday, two days after health officials reported that a child had died after being hospitalized in Lubbock.

On Friday, Lubbock Public Health hosted a virtual news conference at 10 a.m. to update the public on the measles outbreak in West Texas.On Wednesday, officials had a news conference to confirm that a child infected with measles died at a Lubbock hospital.
