Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has formally requested a presidential emergency declaration on the March 28-30 ice storm.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer officially asked the federal government for help in response to the recent ice storm that knocked out power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses in northern Michigan.

As crews work through storm damage in state parks, forests and trails a clearer picture is forming on how hundreds of downed trees may affect Northern Michigan’s summer recreation. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources updated its closure page and released a list of five state forest campgrounds they expect will have a delayed opening.
