Some National Guard members in Washington D.C., likely fewer than 50, had weapons as of Sunday night, a military official told CBS News.

A Defense Department official said some guard units on certain missions had been instructed starting on Sunday to carry service handguns or rifles depending on their assigned missions.

The Department of Homeland Security will be getting an assist from the Guard as it tackles President Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts to stop illegal immigration and crime, according
