It’s the unofficial start of NBA trade season. As of today — Monday, Dec. 15 — 79 players who signed or extended their contracts last summer became eligible to be traded. That means the options have greatly expanded for front offices trying to match salaries and develop trade packages that work for both sides.

But on the very first night of the new NBA season in October, a scout watching San Antonio Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama raised a proverbial white flag as the 21-year-old from France completed a 40-point highlight reel of body-contorting dunks, blocked shots, crossover dribbles and deep 3-pointers.

Like the NFL, the NBA now uses a Flex Scheduling system to move certain games into primetime national viewing while shuffling others back to local markets. NBC Sports announced changes to its upcoming NBA broadcast schedule on Saturday, led by flexing the Dec. 30 Lakers-Pistons game into primetime.
