One-year-old Marshal K-9 Rocky led law enforcement to the dumpster in an alleyway on Stella Link Road which became Davis' hideout for nearly five hours.

Just before 5 p.m., Rocky alerted law enforcement sweeping the area to the dumpster, said Houston Police Chief Noe Diaz. When officers opened it up, Rocky jumped inside and found Davis hiding under "tons" of trash, said Diaz.

A manhunt ended in Texas when a Houston man accused of shooting and killing a deputy serving a warrant on him in the parking lot of a Dollar Tree, was fatally shot by police.

A DPS helicopter rushed federal K-9 officer Rocky to the Westbury Animal Hospital after he led authorities to a murder suspect who was hiding in a dumpster. Investigators say the dog's action saved many lives.

Deputy Jesus Vargas, a member of the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, was in a shooting in southwest Houston and the shooter has been killed, officials say.

Houston police are responding to a fatal shooting involving a deputy from Brazoria County near the 610 South Loop.

The officer who died was identified as Jesus Vargas, a 17-year veteran of the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. Police later killed the suspected shooter, 56-year-old Robert Davis III, after an hours-long manhunt.
