The Statewide Amber Alert for a missing 7-year-old girl from Jefferson County was canceled Monday night, according to the U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

While the system is widely used across the U.S., a Nevada-based academic told Newsweek that AMBER Alerts are not very effective.
