After doubling sales of full-electric BMW and Mini cars last year, the automaker expects demand for EVs will make up a quarter of sales by 2025, rising to 50 percent well ahead of its 2030 target.
The expansion will enable BMW to build at least six fully electric models by 2030, and the high voltage batteries to fuel those vehicles will be assembled right down the street in Woodruff.
BMW estimates that EVs will account for 15 percent of sales this year, rising to 20 percent in 2024, and 25 percent in 2025, gaining parity with combustion sales “well ahead” of 2030.
