South Florida was in the midst of its deepest cold snap in more than a decade on Sunday morning, with temperatures in the mid-30s and wind chills in the mid-20s.

The latest forecasts spare Florida from any snow or sleet but "bitterly cold temperatures" are coming behind the front.

Record-breaking cold temperatures are expected to follow a windy start to the weekend on the Treasure Coast. A rare Arctic cold outbreak arrives this weekend across East Central Florida with widespread freezes as an extreme cold event, according to the National Weather Service office in Melbourne.

Temperatures are in the 30s and upper 20s. The Treasure Coast and Okeechobee County could feel as cold as the teens.

Strong winds and extreme cold cause thousands of FPL outages across South Florida. Palm Beach County hardest hit with over 2,200 customers affected.

According to a shared post on X by the National Weather Service in Miami, a video shows snow flurries east of Naples on Feb. 1.
