The Gilmerton Bridge in Chesapeake was closed Friday due to a bridge lock malfunction, officials said. According to the city, crews were responding as the South Military Highway is closed to traffic.

The Gilmerton Bridge will be closed this weekend beginning at 9 p.m. Friday for important bridge improvements and will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

This collision took place near the Gilmerton Bridge. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital where his injuries are being assessed, according to Chesapeake police.
