Iran is ready to engage in talks on its nuclear program with the United States, but only if Washington takes meaningful steps to rebuild trust.

The talks, to be held in Istanbul on Friday, will be the first since a ceasefire was reached after a 12-day war waged by Israel against Iran in June, which also saw the United States strike nuclear-related facilities in the Islamic Republic. A similar meeting had been held in the Turkish city in May.

A fragile truce between Iran and Israel holds but tensions have grown following the 12-day conflict last month during which the U.S. also bombed Iran's nuclear facilities, with diplomacy stalled and renewed threats of war.
