Taiwan's defense ministry has reported a record 11 Chinese balloons near Taiwan in the 24 hours before Friday morning. Five Chinese aircraft and six naval vessels were also reported in the area.

The House Criminal Justice Committee voted in favor of House Bill 387, which would make the release of 20 or more lighter-than-air balloons a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $250.

The balloons were spotted along with five Chinese aircraft and six warships in the 24 hours to 6am, the defence ministry says.
