Max Verstappen of Red Bull will start from pole position in the Japanese Grand Prix after turning the top time in qualifying on Saturday in his final attempt.

The FIA have announced that Lando Norris' McLaren was inspected following last weekend's Japanese Grand Prix . In a process which is routine for Formula 1's governing body to carry out across a championship race weekend, the No. 4 car was randomly chosen among those that finished in the top 10 after last Sunday's race.

Norris leads the drivers’ championship on 44 points, with Piastri fourth, 10 points behind the Briton. But that is largely down to the fact that Piastri spun during the rain-affected Australian race, finishing ninth as Norris won.
