The Pennsylvania Department of transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission have issued roadway restrictions ahead of a winter storm which is expected to result in dangerous road conditions

Vehicle restrictions are being communicated via variable message boards, the 511PA traveler information website and smartphone apps. Motorists can also sign up for personalized alerts on the PennDOT website.

PennDOT said vehicle restrictions are planned to go into effect at 7 p.m. today, in accordance with Tier 4 of the commonwealth’s weather event vehicle restriction plan, including U.S. Route 22 from U.S. Route 119 to Interstate 99. Further east, those restrictions will extend to U.S. Route 22/322 from I-81 to I-99.

PennDOT and the PA Turnpike are restricting tractor-trailers and other vehicles during the winter storm Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Officials say the storm starts Wednesday morning, with bands of snow, followed by sleet and freezing rain. The below-freezing temperatures could create icy conditions.
