It appears that slugger Pete Alonso’s time with the New York Mets may be growing short. The two sides had been talking for quite a long time, and the Mets reportedly made a last-ditch offer to Alonso that he turned down.

Pete Alonso reportedly turned down the New York Mets' counteroffer in free agency. Per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, Alonso's camp proposed

The expectation is that Alonso will re-sign with the Mets on a short-term, high AAV deal rather than the long-term $200 million contract. If this is the case, then, depending on the dollar amount, a deal could be considered imminent.
