Iranian dissident filmmaker Jafar Panahi's revenge thriller "It Was Just an Accident " won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.

May 24 (UPI) -- Jafar Panahi's Un Simple Accident won the Palme d'or at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday. Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value scored the Grand Prix, while Kieber Mendonca Filho won the Best Director trophy and Wagner Moura picked up the award for Best Actor for The Secret Agent.

Bringing a turbulent world together through cinema, the 78th Cannes Film Festival went off largely without a hitch, despite hosting a day of films honoring Ukraine at the outset and provocative films from both Israel and Gaza in various sections.
