North Dakota's former Indian Affairs Executive Director Scott Davis has taken a role at the federal Department of Interior.

BILLINGS – A Billings police officer testified the weapon used to kill David Vallie outside a downtown apartment complex was stolen from a Bureau of Indian Affairs special agent.

A spokesperson said BIE wouldn't comment. "The Bureau of Indian Education remains committed to supporting student success at Haskell Indian Nations University," a BIE spokesperson said in an email.

The shooting prompted students attending football practice at Santa Fe Indian School to take cover in the stadium's bleachers.

Officers were able to move the students to a safe location with the assistance of the Northern Pueblos Agency Bureau of Indian Affairs Police, Santa Fe Police stated in a news release.
