Andy Byford, who served as the president of New York City Transit for two years, has been chosen to lead the renovation of the Amtrak-owned transportation hub, media outlets reported Friday. Byford’s appointment is pending confirmation by the Amtrak board, the New York Times reported.

Byford’s leadership could signal a change from parts of Amtrak’s plan, such as possibly ditching the demolition of a city block south of Penn Station to build more NJ Transit tracks.

If approved for the job by the Amtrak board, Andy Byford will take the helm of one of the most high-profile, complex and expensive construction projects in the country.
