A U.S.- and Israeli-backed private organization is overhauling the aid distribution system in Gaza. The United Nations says it undermines humanitarian principles.

United Nations officials said that the new system, known as the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, violated humanitarian principles by requiring many Palestinians to travel miles to obtain aid.

Chaos broke out at an aid distribution site in Gaza run by a controversial US-backed group on Tuesday as thousands of desperate Palestinians rushed to receive food supplies, with Israeli troops firing warning shots into the air and the US contractors overseeing the site briefly withdrawing.
