The boyfriend of a University of Mississippi student at the center of a viral internet rumor spoke out on Thursday.

In a Facebook statement shared by her dad Justin Cornett, Mary said: “Hello, this is Mary Kate Cornett. I am a student and member of Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of Mississippi. I have been the victim of a deliberate and coordinated cyberattack spreading categorically false and defamatory information.”

Mary Kate Cornett's family is speaking out after she was accused of inappropriate behavior in her personal life. Her father, Justin Cornett, called the widespread rumors an "organized" "defamatory cyber attack" against the University of Mississippi student.
