Matt Cross scored 21 points, Chuck Harris had 20, and SMU held off a late rally by Virginia Tech for an 81-75 victory Wednesday night at Cassell Coliseum.

Virginia Tech was coming off back-to-back road wins over Florida State and Virginia. "SMU's better than those two teams," Tech coach Mike Young said. It was the sixth time this season that Tech allowed at least 80 points. The Mustangs entered the game averaging a league-high 82.9 points.
