For the 8th time in CONCACAF Gold Cup history, the USMNT and Mexico are set to face off in the final of the 2025 edition at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, on Sunday (7 pm ET).

HOUSTON — Sixteen summers ago, in the aching moments after a 5-0 mishap against Mexico in the Concacaf Gold Cup final, the U.S. players could not wait to seek peace at New Jersey’s Giants Stadium. Bob Bradley, then the coach of the besieged men’s national soccer team, instructed them to remain on the field.

The United States won all five games leading into the finals, needing penalties to win its quarterfinal before hanging on against Guatemala to reach the finals. It's star player, Diego Luna, formerly played for the El Paso Locomotive in 2021. Mexico won its group with two wins and a tie, then beat Saudi Arabia and Honduras to make the finals.
