Apr 11, 2021 · Brake fluid light came on and had to refill reservoir. I put cardboard under car and seen 3-4 separate spots of dark liquid in center of cardboard. No gas smell and no real smell at all. Can this be a brake line leak? In the video link I go from bottom of passenger lower arm (it is dry) then the leaking starts at the top lower arm bolt …
Brake fluid leak - help - Maintenance/Repairs - Car Talk Community
Sep 7, 2013 · Putting anything besides the exact brake fluid spec’d and recommended for the car (often this is “DOT 3”, but always check the owners manual) into the brake fluid reservoir will likely damage other brake components eventually, and can prove to be very costly to fix. Think thousands of dollars. And very unsafe.
Leaking brake fluid? - Maintenance/Repairs - Car Talk Community
Jun 19, 2012 · Recently I took my 2006 Subaru Outback wagon on a trip in the mountains. I parked my car in the driveway overnight and noticed oily fluid on all of the tires and on the ground in the morning. The fluid spill was worse on the driver’s side front and rear tires, but was noticeable on the passenger side as well. I did not notice an odor to it. I used the brakes alot on the way back down from ...
Leak under front left. Full brake fluid, bad brakes
Dec 17, 2022 · Just saw a leak tonight under the front left (driver’s side). Haven’t driven the car all week, it’s not from rain or AC. Not sure what it might be coming from? Also the brakes have been bad. Randomly going almost all the way out when I drive it (which is why I haven’t driven it all week lol). Brake fluid is full, but dark brown… Just got new brake pads and tires last year. Brake ...
Brake fluid leak when changing shoes? - Car Talk Community
Sep 6, 2011 · I replaced the brake shoes on my 99 Altima for the first time yesterday. Never done this job before. It went well except on the driver side, when I was pushing the piston back in to insert the new shoe, a little brake fluid leaked out of the seal on the wheel cylinder. Is this normal? I plan to check the brake fluid level over the next few days to see if …
How to stop brake fluid leaking out when doing brake jobs?
Nov 5, 2022 · I replaced my truck’s front shoes & wheel cylinders last month. In order to prevent the brake fluid from leaking out of the master cylinder, before disconnecting the hose from the wheel cylinder I used a forceps tool to clamp it off. Got to wondering if there’s a better method, thinking the clamp might damage the hose. Would pressing on the brake pedal slightly (a stick between seat and ...

Brake Fluid operation question - Car Talk Community
Jun 21, 2016 · My car has a brake leak (pedal goes soft, has happened with this car before). I can’t take it in to get fixed yet so it will be sitting in the driveway for a few weeks. It will eventually be towed (safety first!). I think I should be starting the car up every few days and letting it warm up so everything else doesn’t get too “rusty” …
Leaking Electric Parking Brakes on 2019 X1 - Car Talk Community
Nov 8, 2023 · Sister in-law has a 2019 BMW X1. This is, as I understand it, a Mini Clubman with BMW logos on it. I did not expect to like this thing, but I actually do really like it. Rear brake pads wore out at about 40k miles. Normally one would use a scan tool to back off the electric parking brake motors, but my six-year-old Foxwell scanner won’t talk …
Where is the brake fluid going? - Car Talk Community
Dec 19, 2013 · Update: I still had to add fluid a couple times in the last month, after having the brakes checked at a shop I trusted. This AM I investigated under the car, and found evidence of a leak seeping out from the plastic cover that’s to the left of the muffler. Most likely it’s brake fluid, leaking from a pipe or fitting up there.
