The Gulf of Naples (Italian: Golfo di Napoli), also called the Bay of Naples, is a roughly 15-kilometer-wide (9.3 mi) gulf located along the south-western coast of Italy (Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania region). It opens to the west into the Mediterranean Sea.

Santa Maria del Carmine Maggiore is one of the largest basilicas in Naples and a fine example of Neapolitan Baroque style. The church was founded in the 13th century by Carmelite friars who had been expelled from the Holy Land during the Crusades, and who probably arrived in the Bay of Naples on Amalfi ships.

Baia is an open bay at the western end of the Bay of Naples, just over three miles N of Capo Miseno. Shelter here is good in the prevailing NW and SW winds, but the bay is completely open to winds from NE and E. In strong winds from this direction it would become untenable.
