Hot Rods - Leaky Crush Washers | The H.A.M.B. - The Jalopy Journal
Jun 25, 2016 · Help! Can't get my front brake hoses to stop weeping brake fluid at the crush washers. I have tried just about everything to stop the leak. Banjo bolt sealing- anyone have any good tricks? | The H.A.M.B.
Jun 26, 2010 · Yes, I sure did. I also made sure the bolts and surfaces were good and clean. I've tried the old copper washers, and a couple of different sets of new ones. I've also tried new bolts. I've tried tightening the shit out of them (a little at a time) up to the point of even twisting one in two. The leak is between the block and the wheel cylinder.

Why does almost every fitting on my brake system leak?!
Feb 25, 2017 · I was taught a trick by an old timer at a brake and suspension shop I used to work at. The trick is to loosen and tighten the fitting a bunch. 20-50 times even. Gradually tightening as you go. It gets them to seat. I've even had to do it to the "factory" fittings on the sticks you buy at the auto parts store. They will stop leaking if you do this.

Background is that I was using Dot 3 and found myself changing/rebuilding leaky wheel cylinders every 3-4 years. I got tired of that and decided to change the fluid to Dot 5. This is in a 1934 Ford with 39-48 drum brakes.
Does brake fluid ruin brake pads? | The H.A.M.B. - The Jalopy Journal
Dec 22, 2009 · Actually quiet the opposite - Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it attracts and retains moisture. Making it necessary to bleed the brakes on a regular basis and to not store brake fluid for a length of time, once the original seal is broken. Water alone doesn't dissolve brake fluid. That's why you need a detergent when washing it off your hands.
