Nov 12, 2017 · Residents can get their running shoes on once again, as renovation works return disused running track to its former glory. The track at Springfield Park on Bolton Road, Rochdale, originally built in the 1960s, has received a complete resurface and is now available for use by casual runners and walkers.

Apparently maintenance of the infrastructure waned and the athletics running track was closed in mid 2008 after it failed a UK Athletics safety inspection. Perhaps ironically, one of the last athletes to use the track was Dwain Chambers.

Disused overgrown running track and terrace at Harper Green Playing Fields, Farnworth, Bolton, Lancashire. The public playing fields, with football pitches, running track, field sports facilities and sports pavilion was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1963.

This peaceful cycling and walking trail runs along a disused railway track from West Meon to Wickham via Droxford. There are splendid views of the beautiful Meon Valley and the River Meon to enjoy as well as a variety of wildlife including butterflies, redwing and egrets.

The disused track has developed into fine meadow grassland since the closure of the railway line in 1969. The cutting and wood form a complementary mosaic of mature woodland, developing scrub and grassland.
