The Don (Russian: Дон, romanized: don) is the fifth-longest river in Europe. Flowing from Central Russia to the Sea of Azov in Southern Russia, it is one of Russia's largest rivers and played an important role for traders from the Byzantine Empire.

Returning to the main trail, we crossed the Don River and went up the east side to explore the dam from that vantage point. Near this place, German Mills Creek empties into The Don. German Mills Creek flows for about 10 kilometres as a left tributary of the East Don River.
