Oct 1, 2018 · Properly set up cable disk brakes are practically indistinguishable in stopping power from hydraulic brakes (although you do have to pull a bit harder at the lever). The likelihood is that you need to adjust the inboard (static) pad of your brakes.

looking at buying a frame 2nd hand but its disc specific and i want to use v-brakes as the forks going on are v-brake only (retro build). The frame originally had v-brake bosses but they were removed and a disc mount welded on.

You might be needing new levers. V-brake needs long pull, traditional cantis need short pull.

For a pub bike I'd leave the (lighter) v-brakes on at the rear. Many people have used the convertors, usually they work fine but occasionally the frame doesn't like them and they can be very hard to secure.

Is there any reason i cannot just have the wire run up to the lever after the barrel adjuster? (probably could do with a v brake noodle to make a better line for the brake when i pull the lever) I bought the other type of U brake, the one that works by tugging on a wire, as shown below.
