The giant Canada goose (Branta canadensis maxima) is the only goose that nests in Tennessee and is a year-round resident. The Canada goose was almost extirpated from Tennessee in the late 19th century, but was successfully reintroduced to this region during the ‘60s after isolated populations were discovered in Minnesota.
