Hey Drummers! Sad news in the music and drumming communities with the passing of the incredible Butch Miles yesterday, he was 79 years old. Butch was best known for his tenure in the Count Basie Orchestra from 1975 to 1979 and then made a ten-year return to the band from 1997 to 2007. Butch also played with Dave Brubeck, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr., and Frank Sinatra, among many others. He cited Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, and Jo Jones as a few of his favorite drummers.
