PAWS Chicago welcomed 25 beagles that were rescued from a breeding and biomedical research facility in Wisconsin. PAWS said the dogs were surrendered by Ridglan Farms, a dog breeding and biomedical research facility in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. Ridglan Famrs agreed to surrender its state breeding license effective July 1 to avoid criminal prosecution for civil animal cruelty violations, according to the State of Wisconsin Circuit Court.

Dozens of animal-rights activists stormed a breeding facility and removed more than 20 beagles intended for scientific research. Approximately 60 individuals breached the perimeter of Ridglan Farms in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, on March 15 to take the dogs before 27 people were arrested and released pending trial. The facility had previously agreed to cease its breeding operations by 2026 following an investigation into surgeries performed on animals without anesthesia.
